From PE to PVC: the diversity of raw material processing at WKT

13.6.2025
Modern infrastructure would be inconceivable without plastic pipes. Whether in drinking water supply, wastewater disposal or industrial applications - the selection of the right material is crucial for efficiency, durability and sustainability. At WKT, the focus is on diversity: polyethylene (PE), polyamide (PA) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) form the basis for a broad portfolio that covers almost all requirements. But what makes these materials so special and how do we process them to offer you the optimum solution?

PE: Flexible and robust - for dynamic requirements

Polyethylene, or PE for short, stands for versatility and strength. PE pipes are characterized by their exceptional flexibility and impact resistance, which makes them ideal for dynamic applications.

Our PE variants offer the right answer to every challenge:

  • PE 100: The all-rounder, ideal for water and gas pipe systems, withstands pressures of up to 10 MPa with a service life of 50 years.
  • PE 100 RC (resistant to crack): Developed for even higher loads, it offers a service life of up to 100 years and is particularly resistant to crack propagation.
  • PE 100 RT (resistant to temperature): perfect for use at elevated temperatures of up to 70 °C for decades - naturally ideal for hot water applications.

Our PE production enables pipes of several hundred meters (then bound as a ring or drum) in addition to 6- 10 and 12-m lengths, reducing transport and installation costs. Trenchless installation methods such as flush drilling round off the package.

PVC: Dimensional stability and chemical resistance - perfect for static applications

Polyvinyl chloride, better known as PVC, impresses with its hardness, dimensional stability and resistance. This material has proven its worth in the drinking water supply and chemical industries in particular. It goes without saying that we at WKT process certified raw material and can boast DVGW approval.

At WKT, we process two main variants:

  • PVC-U: The classic PVC type is free of plasticizers and therefore harmless to health. Its hardness and chemical resistance make it the first choice for drinking water pipes and industrial applications.
  • PVC-C: Thanks to its additional chlorine content, this material can withstand temperatures of up to 95 °C and is ideal for the chemical industry.

PVC makes connections child's play. Simple bonding saves you time and effort, and therefore money - a clear plus for every project.

PA: High-tech for special applications

Polyamide (PA) shows its strengths in specialized applications. We process PA-12 in particular, which shines especially in high-pressure gas supply due to its extremely high pressure resistance. At the same time, polyamide is known for its chemical resistance, corrosion resistance and mechanical stability. WKT pipes made of PA-12 are therefore durable, flexible and a safe choice even under the most demanding conditions.

Processing: Tailor-made and sustainable

At WKT, we focus on precision and innovation. Our extrusion systems process the raw materials into high-quality pipes that meet the highest technical and ecological standards. Supposedly modern topics such as sustainability and the circular economy have been a top priority for 70 years and are practiced in the daily process: Recycled materials from all WKT products flow directly back into production - and are turned into new cable conduits, for example.

Conclusion: The right solution for every requirement

Whether PE, PVC or PA - every material has its strengths, and we at WKT know how you can make the most of them. Our wide range of products, supplemented by customized special designs, makes us a reliable partner for every single one of your projects.
